The family had seen the astrologer regarding his sister’s marriage. He was asked another name that would suit him that day. The astrologer suggested the names Abdul Rahman and Abdul Rahim. He also claimed that he immediately liked the name Rahman.

Rahman married Zaira Banu. Three children were born to them, Khadija, Amin and Rahima. Khadija strongly believes in his children. Khadija, who only goes out in a burqa, is often the subject of discussion on social media. Earlier, AR Rahman was criticized for allegedly religiously controlling Khadija. Taslima Nasreen, a Bangladeshi writer, appeared on the scene against Rahman.
