I was going through my monthly credit card statement the other day and noticed this weird charge labeled “*FRGTEAMFANS” that I didn’t recognize. At first, I thought it might be some kind of fraudulent activity, but after doing a little digging, it seems this is actually a legitimate charge related to an online purchase I made.
Apparently, *FRGTEAMFANS is the way the Fanatics company shows up on credit card statements. Fanatics is a major online retailer that specializes in selling official merchandise and apparel for various professional and college sports teams.
When I looked back, I remembered ordering a new jersey for my favorite football team from the Fanatics website a couple months ago. The charge on my statement, which also appeared as “PAYPAL *FRGTEAMFANS” in some cases, was simply the way Fanatics’ name got translated onto my credit card bill.
I was relieved to find out this wasn’t some kind of scam or fraudulent activity. It’s just the nature of how certain merchant names get abbreviated or shortened when they appear on our monthly statements. The charge was completely legitimate, it just didn’t look familiar at first glance.
Has anyone else run into this kind of thing before? I’m curious to hear if you had a similar experience tracking down the source of that mystery charge. Definitely keep an eye out, but in my case, it turned out to be totally above board.
